Creative Labs X-Fi Software Uninstallation Guide

Creative Labs has always shipped their soundcards with a lot of useless software that automatically installs. This is the same with their new X-Fi series of cards where even the minimal installation eats a whopping 350MB+ on your harddisk. Among the most useless is the so called "X-Fi Splash" which is a one time video animation that shows directly after a succesful install of drivers and software. X-Fi Splash requires 50Mb on your harddisk. There is no uninstall option for X-Fi Splash but here is how you get rid of it anyway:
  1. Start "Regedit". (Click Start > Run > and type it)
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_Machine_... > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall > X-Fi Splash
  3. Right click "UninstallString" and select uppermost choice "Modify", then just copy the (Ctrl+C) uninstall string to clipboard. Close "Regedit" afterwards.
  4. Then open Command Prompt. (Click Start > Run > and paste the uninstall string)
  5. Press enter and follow instructions.

Afterwards X-Fi Splash will be uninstalled.
