Creative X-Fi Users Up In Arms Over Speakers
The Creative Labs tech support forums are beginning to fill up with smouldering users unhappy with a lack of compatibility between the firm's X-fi cards and its own 5.1 digital speaker sets. The same thing happened to me: I had to switch from my beloved Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 Digital speakers to the older analog DTT2200 set that way laying around.
According to various incandescent users on the forums, getting 5.1 speakers to work with the spiffy cards is hard because they won't perform Dolby Digital encoding on the fly and don't use the same type of digital DIN interface that older Creative products used. Some enterprising users have, however, whipped out their soldering irons and performed their own mod that allows everything to sound just fine and dandy.
So far, Creative doesn't seem to want to send round people skilled with these implements to help out souls who haven't soldering irons or if they have are frit about using them. The threads start here.
