Symantec Launches New Internet Security Suite

Symantec has upgraded its flagship Norton Internet Security platform to version 2006, making the security applications more user friendly by offering plain-language guidance on safe-computing strategies in a new "protection center."

The new products - Norton Internet Security 2006, Norton AntiVirus 2006 and Norton Personal Firewall 2006 - offer features and functions designed to make security more proactive and automatic for consumers. Internet Security 2006 combines Norton AntiVirus, Norton Personal Firewall, Norton AntiSpam, Norton Privacy Control and Norton Parental Control in a single package. The antispam component no longer is offered as a standalone application and has been updated in the new version to help identify and thwart phishing attacks.

The Protection Center aggregates and summarizes what users need to know about security issues using simple, everyday language to make security relevant to the activities consumers use their computers for, such as Web surfing, e-mail and downloading digital photos and music. Norton AntiVirus 2006, Norton Internet Security 2006, and Norton Personal Firewall 2006 are scheduled to be available within the next two weeks. Norton AntiVirus 2006 costs $39.99, Norton Internet Security 2006 costs $69.99 and Norton Personal Firewall 2006 costs $49.99. Current users of Symantec products as well as users of competitive products can upgrade for less than full retail prices.
